I’m not going to beat around the bush here. Social media is a tool that we all like to trash talk and point out how terrible it is for our mental health. Yes, it is nothing more than an echo chamber to reaffirm your beliefs and attitudes on everything from politics to your favorite food. Certainly, it’s probably a huge and wasteful time suck; who isn’t at least mildly addicted to the endless scroll?

But when you think about it, if you already know this about social media, why not put those same aspects to good use? I’m a firm believer in curating my life. I don’t subscribe to the idea that I shouldn’t unfriend someone because I don’t like them. I’ve heard some say, but what if you hurt their feelings? And honestly? I am not sure what good it does to keep voices in my newsfeed that I know are not great for my mental health. So, I put people on mute, I unfriend, and sometimes, I block.

All of this power to shape an online experience can be intentional and practical, especially for parents. If you want to achieve a parenting goal, then harness your social media apps to do just that. But how, you ask? Well, it’s simple; let me walk you through it.
