Riot in the Wallet Not the Streets: 8 Ways to Protest That Aren’t Marches or Petitions
If women represent 85% of consumer purchases, then let’s use that to our advantage.
Protests have traditionally meant taking to the streets with a neatly worded slogan to shout out upset over whatever is happening. They can be incredibly inspiring, they can lift us up and make us feel seen and heard, but in the last decade or so, organized marches don’t seem to do anything. You or me marching down a crowded city street, holding clever signs, and screaming our faces off may feel great at the moment, but that’s about all it will do.
As a person who has consistently voted blue since 2015 (I was a swing voter before the lunacy of the Trump years), I feel strongly that voting for Democrats doesn’t do much good anymore either. And before you come for me with seething anger, consider this:
- Democrats did nothing to stop the conservatives from loading up the Judicial branch with radicalized activist judges over the last two decades — not just SCOTUS, but benches at every level.
- Democrats did nothing to codify abortion rights into federal law since Roe began in 1976 despite all the protests and warnings from pro-choice activists.
- Democrats were handed the White House, Congress, and the Senate in the last election and have done nothing meaningful to act on promises made during campaigns, from ushering in Climate Change legislation to abortion rights to student loan debt…
